Sources of Good Music

The following are some good sources of tin whistle and flute playing. Bear in mind that this list is not exhaustive; it's just a few off the top of my head.

Tin Whistle:

  • Mary Bergin (the reigning queen of whistle playing)
  • Sean Ryan (great tongued triplets)
  • Sean Smyth (also plays a mean fiddle)
  • Micho Russell
  • Vinnie Kilduff
  • Cathal McConnell (solo or with The Boys of the Lough)
  • The Chieftains
  • Capercaillie (their whistle player, Marc Duff, plays recorder and has great tonguing technique)
  • The Tannahill Weavers
  • Battlefield Band
  • Joanie Madden (of Cherish the Ladies)
  • Frankie Gavin (solo or with De Dannann)
  • Larry Nugent (Northern player with great tonguing)

Flute:

  • Matt Molloy (solo, or with The Chieftains or The Bothy Band)
  • Frankie Kennedy (of Altan)
  • Cathal McConnell (solo or with The Boys of the Lough)
  • Conal O'Grada (great, energetic, punchy style)
  • Seamus Egan (solo or with Solas)
  • Frankie Gavin (solo or with De Dannann)
  • Kevin Crawford
  • Grey Larsen
  • Michael McGoldrick
  • Paul McGrattan
  • Emer Mayock
  • Chris Norman
  • Joanie Madden (with Cherish the Ladies)
  • Larry Nugent
